Ms. Paola, one of our 6th grade ELL students, worked with Ms. J over the last few weeks to create these multicultural showcases next to the elementary main office! One of them is titled "Positivity Around the World" and the other is called "Languages of the Comets." Each showcase has buttons attached that will read aloud different phrases in foreign languages, with the translations included as well. Gracias Paola for the unique project! The kids have been loving pressing the buttons as they walk through the halls. #growingforthefuture #ColemanCometPride #academicsartsathleticsagriculture

At the MHSAA division four singles tournament back in February at Sheridan Lanes, Coleman had one boys bowler win his way past the elimination round - Jacob Butters! Jacob won his first match 160 to 118 against Carson City-Crystal and moved up to the final 8 bowlers, winning that match also 150-148 against St Charles. Jacob finished in 4th place and won a medal, which is outstanding in a starting field of 21 bowlers! Awesome job, Jacob!

Three students from Coleman Junior-Senior High were named local winners in the 55th annual America & Me Essay Contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance. The three eighth grade students, who earned the first, second, and third place awards for their school, are Kendall Allen, first, Parker Klopf, second, and Sara Husted, third. All three students received an award certificate for their achievement. As the school’s first place winner, Kendall’s name will also be engraved on a plaque for permanent display at the school. In addition, her essay will advance to the state level of competition. Those winners will be announced later in the spring. Several thousand eighth grade students from over 200 Michigan schools participated in the 2023-2024 America & Me Essay Contest. The topic of the contest was “My Personal Michigan Hero.” Started in 1968 and open to all Michigan eighth grade students, the contest encourages Michigan youth to explore the greatness of America and its people. As the sponsor of the contest, Farm Bureau Insurance has earned eleven national awards. Congratulations to these students for their excellence in writing! Have you noticed a few new faces around here? We'd like to officially welcome new staff members Chef Jacob Moore and Mrs. Rachel Hamina to our district! Chef Jacob Moore is our new Culinary instructor! He started working alongside Chef Andy, who was subbing in the position for us this school year. Chef Jacob is going to be a great asset with our students. He has immediately begun building relationships with them, has a strong knowledge of how to teach different people using different strategies, and has jumped in full force learning about the program and is excited to continue building it. We're excited to have him on board! Chef Andy will still be a part of our team, coming in from time to time to provide some of his expertise and support what Chef Jacob has planned. Please help Chef Jacob feel welcome! Mrs. Rachel Hamina started in our Student Support Specialist (formerly Counselor) role back in February. Mrs. Hamina has worked with college students in the area of course selection and competency, spent time in an academy working with students with IEPs and 504 plans, and has been serving in her most recent role as an MCAN Advisor in Bullock Creek (same position as Mr. Zink does for us). Can't wait for you to meet her!

6th graders visited Chippewa Nature Center to explore ways animals adapt to their environment. Students created a habitat for their ”critter” using fluff, feathers, and fat. They measured their critters' temperature, built their habitat, and placed them outside. Students were then given an animal and explored the forest looking for food their animal could forage in the winter. After about 30 minutes, students retrieved their "critters" and measured their temperatures again. The least amount of temperature loss proved to be a good habitat.
