Students continue to work at refining their science skills throughout the summer. Maybe they're experimenting on how to make the summer last forever? Great work, Comets!!

FYI - Meet Up & Eat Up Program CLOSED on Thursday, July 4th for the holiday, but will be back open on Monday. See you then!

We are pleased to share some fantastic news with you!
During the spring, Mr. Cowell, Transportation Director, and Mrs. McCormack, Superintendent, researched the viability, cost and benefits of providing an in-town transportation route(s) to those students who do not currently have that option. At our June Board of Education meeting, the Board approved this route as part of the budget beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.
Parents of Coleman Schools with a child(ren) living within our in-town boundaries will now have the option of being transported by school bus starting with the 2024-2025 school year. Each family in town will be assigned a pick-up/drop-off point close to their home. Many of those families received an email this weekend sharing the information. If you are new to the district or have moved in town and have questions, please feel free to contact us.
Later this summer, Mr. Cowell will reach out to each of these families to determine if they would like to take advantage of this option for their child(ren) and provide them with times.
We hope this change will be beneficial to many of our families and make things a bit easier for them. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Panama Day 8: The Comets made their way back home on Friday, but not before getting in one last amazing hike! Zach, Adriana, and Miss J woke up early to hike Ancón Hill for one last beautiful view before heading out. They even saw two different kinds of sloths not far off the trail! After the early hike, the Comets packed up to head for the airport. They made it back to Coleman after a quick sprint through the Atlanta airport, and are all safe and happy at home!

Panama Day 7: It was the last full day of activities, and definitely one to remember!! The Comets started the day with a bus ride across the country (2 hours) to get to Colón on the Caribbean side for a snorkeling sesh. The students and Miss J took a boat to a nearby beach and snorkeled in the beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean sea! They saw fish, sea urchins, corals, and many other little creatures. Don’t worry, no one was eaten by a shark! Afterwards, students stopped by the ruins of a Spanish fort in the town of Porto Belo.

Panama Day 6: The Comets were immersed in the indigenous culture of Panama today! A community of Emberá people welcomed them to their home and allowed the Comets to experience their way of life for the day. Students were given a presentation about the Emberá people, saw their local school, played fútbol, saw some traditional dance, and were given traditional Emberá tattoos (temporary). They also ate a delicious traditional lunch of fried plantain, fresh tilapia, and local fruits. The Comets finished the day with a dinner in Casco Viejo!

Panama Day 4! (Day 5 update coming later tonight!) The Comets had an early start today on their way to a motorized canoe ride on Gatun Lake, which is part of the Panama Canal. While on the lake, they were able to see Panamanian wildlife, like monkeys, birds, and iguanas! After the lake, students took a hike through the rainforest in Soberanía National Park. Next they went to the Panama Canal Miraflores Lock to learn about the history of the canal and see some cargo ships making their way through. They finished up the day at the Feria Nacional de Artesanías to check out local crafters, musicians, artisans, and other artists!

The Comets had a great day 5 of exploring Panama. They started the day touring a local farm and comparing Panamanian agriculture to our own! It was very cool to see all the crops grown like pineapples, coffee, citronella, dragonfruit, yucca, and turmeric. Students were even able to sample some AMAZING pineapple! After the farm was lunch at a local restaurant and a stop by the famous Panama sign on the Amador Causeway. They finished the day hiking 400+ feet of elevation for an awesome view of the city and canal.

Coleman Schools parents, community members and parents of Coleman area preschoolers~ MidMichigan Health is currently working on a competitive federal grant opportunity for potential expansion of hours to the Coleman School Based Health Clinic (SBHC). The grant would allow the Coleman SBHC to go from 24 to 30 hours per week. It is a highly competitive grant with 140 awards to community health centers in the nation. If expanded, the clinic would continue to support Coleman K-12 students and potentially Coleman area preschoolers. This survey will provide us with information on the needs of the community. Please take time over the next week to complete the survey at the link below if you would. https://forms.gle/B9aveQiXHZdmBqk1A Thank you for your time! ~ Mrs. McCormack, Supt.
