Our School-Based Health Center is almost ready! As you may have read earlier this year, the School-Based Health Center is coming to Coleman Community Schools through a State-funded grant and our collaboration with Mid Michigan Health to service our students in grades K-12. The clinic staff will begin moving in this week, with an Open House scheduled the same evening as our Elementary PTO Game Night. Clinic staff will be on-hand for you to tour the clinic from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19th. We are excited to be able to support our students K-12 in this clinic which will offer a medical provider, Ms. Stacey Williamson, FNP-C, receptionist and in the near future, a behavioral specialist. The clinic will begin opening for appointments toward the end of January and more information will be shared, including contact information and hours. The clinic will be open 24 hours per week, including during the summer. Parents will be able to schedule yearly check-ups, physicals and other appointments for their children. Our school nurse, Mrs. Korin Weber will still be serving in our schools for all needs. She will serve to triage any situations that may need clinic support and contact the parents. Once students are utilizing the clinic, you will also get a call from the clinic staff. This should prove to be a great service for our students, allowing them easy access to medical and behavioral needs without having to go far to get them. And, while insurance information is submitted, no child is charged for any additional costs for services received through the clinic! We're excited to bring this option to our Coleman families and hope to see many of you on January 19th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Elementary to take a tour!

Erika Rice, Coleman Alumni, is now a Recruiter/Staffing Representative at Spherion Staffing & Recruiting in Midland. We're proud of her accomplishments and the fact that she now shares back to our Coleman students by providing staff information about scholarships available to them through Spherion and the "Excellence in Leadership" Scholarship. Thank you to Erika for thinking of our Coleman students. If a Coleman graduating senior has an interest in this scholarship, please contact your school counselor in the office. What are other Coleman graduates doing now? Feel free to share at pr@colemanschools.net for us to review and possibly post. #ColemanComets #growingforthefuture

Given that the Jr/Sr High staff and students did not have enough time this week to prepare for exams, we are changing up the format of next week a bit. Please see our new schedule below: Monday, 1/15: Students will be given an extra day of review in all of their classes. Tuesday, 1/16-Thursday, 1/17: Students will be given exams in their classes. Teachers will be communicating on Monday to students and their parents what day(s) they are giving the exam in their classes. Families should expect emails from the teachers letting you know when to be prepared for the exam in each of their classes.

Coleman Schools will be closed Monday, January 15th, due to continued drifting on backroads. We also have very low hanging branches due to the heavy snow on about half of our routes which would be unsafe with students on the bus. Local road commissions have done a great job of getting to all they can and we sincerely appreciate all of their efforts. A determination on evening events and voluntary high school practices will be made by noon tomorrow. A determination will also be made by noon on the Board of Education meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Please be safe and stay warm.

Please help us welcome Ms. Morgan Simons, new Kindergarten teacher at the elementary! Ms. Simons has started working with Mrs. Allen and they will work together through the end of the semester to ensure a smooth transition for the students in her room. It is clear Ms. Simons has a love for students and a strong understanding of the strategies it takes to help them learn and grow. Thank you to Mrs. Allen who has done an outstanding job in the classroom for the first half of the year. We are also lucky that she is still our Interventionist and continues to be part of the team.
