Boys Basketball hosted the Huskies from Breckenridge last night. The JV team battled arguably the best JV team in the league and came up a little short, but they were competitive throughout. The varsity boys battled to overtime, eventually winning on a Logan Dudley buzzer-beating layup 49-47. These were the only two points scored in the overtime session. The Comets were led by Logan Glazier's 14 points and 5 rebounds and Jared DeVrieze's 12 points and 5 assists. Robert Harsh was the Mayor of the Glass on the night with 10 rebounds.

Congratulations to Alison Young! She won a $500 gift credit to the First Book Marketplace, supported by Pizza Hut®. She says, "I wrote an essay about the importance of getting books into kids' hands, especially in a low income area, and the impact having a variety of books has on our at risk/special education kiddos. I am so excited! $500 was the grand prize!" We can't wait to see what new books she gets on her shelves!

The Jr High Boy's Basketball Teams are making waves around the league with their play. The 8th-grade boys improved their record to 3-0 at Montabella on Monday with a 62-25 victory. They were led by Sincear Czarnecki's 18 points and 7 steals and Noah Moran's 20. Brennan Glazier poured in 17 on the day. The 7th-grade boys have a majority 6th-grade team but are doing well against 7th-grade competition. They lost Monday with Ethan Colvin leading the charge with 14 points. Both teams are in action today at Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy with the 8th grade team kicking things off at 4:30.

Our wrestling team competed in a tournament in Clio over the weekend and had a solid showing. They were competitive with everyone they faced, but being short on numbers kept them from being near the top. However, Dakota Lattimer went 5-0 on the day, and Aiden Rooks went 4-1. Their State competitions start next week.

Our powerlifters brought home some hardware this weekend. From Coach Thomas: Kapre Lynch and Zach MacPhee competed this weekend with both setting competition PR’s and coming home with some medals. Kapre placed 1st with a 200 lbs squat, 125 lbs bench, and 305 lbs deadlift for a total of 630 lbs. Zach placed 3rd with a 410 lbs squat, 230 lbs bench, and 420 lbs deadlift for a total of 1060 lbs.

Our Junior and Senior High Competitive Cheer teams hosted the second MSAC competition Thursday night. Both teams represented the community well and put on the first home competition in two years. They also honored the seniors in the program: Julia Weglowska, Alexis Wright, and Lilliana Colmus. They still have multiple competitions left in the season, but are showing growth each week.

Don't mix up who's who when our 5th grade teachers dress as twins!

It's Romeo & Juliet time again! Mrs. Shumaker's freshmen English classes traditionally act out Romeo & Juliet, and this year was no different. Students dress and have the option to play various rolls. (In other words, we had a few Romeos and a couple of Juliets.)

Students who visit Katelyn Ward for reading/writing intervention in the Elementary might work on a few of these things in small groups. Time spent in reading/writing intervention entails intensive, targeted instruction to develop foundational literacy abilities like decoding, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing mechanics.

The HS boys basketball teams traveled to Carson City-Crystal last night. The JV boys fought valiantly with five players due to sickness and injury and kept it a 1-point game almost the entire way only to fall at the end. The varsity boys took charge early and came out with a 63-22 victory. They were led by Logan Glazier's 21 points and 13 rebounds.. Jared DeVrieze had 18 points and 6 boards and Bob Harsh hit 10 in both categories. The boys host Sacred Heart this Tuesday with the JV tipping off at 5:30.

We moved the JH Boys Basketball game we had to cancel yesterday to this afternoon, Thursday 1/23. Carson City-Crystal was able to facilitate this on their end to ensure our boys don't miss an opportunity. So we will have the 8th-grade boys play at 4:30 with the 7th-graders to follow.
