Residents of the Pere Marquette Senior Apartments enjoyed VIP seats during the 2023 Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 15th. Thank you to Coleman Schools teachers Alex Fox and Jesse Kalitta for escorting residents to and from the event, John and Sandy Spicer from Mama's Market, Coleman Schools maintenance crew, and City of Coleman workers who assisted with set up.

Did you know that the November 2023 Bond Proposal DOES NOT include the construction of a new auxiliary gym OR a new auditorium? These items were formerly part of the August 2021 Bond Proposal, but have since been removed in the current proposal in order to better reflect community feedback. The current proposal will instead address minor renovations in the current auditorium and a full renovation of the current locker rooms. If you weren't aware of this fact, you should check out our Bond page to make sure you have all the up-to-date info about the current proposal! https://www.colemanschools.net/page/bond-information-2023

Today is Technology/Communications Department Recognition Day! This group keeps us all running smoothly, gets us out of many different jams, and honestly just helps us maintain some sanity! They are skilled, detail-oriented, and bring a great deal of knowledge and support to the district and each of us individually. We couldn't do all that we do without them. Please help us recognize the great work they do!

The day before the first day of school is always reserved for our first all-staff professional development day of the year! This year's theme was "Cultivating Comet Connections - Growing for the Future!" Each staff member was gifted a small plant to keep in their work stations as a reminder of our strong ties to agriscience. In addition to our annual trainings in health & wellness with Nurse Weber, ALICE/safety with Deputy Hodges, and technology with Mr. Burkhart, everyone went on a tour of the school and community! Many staff members enjoyed getting the chance to visit areas they don't normally get to see, like the culinary building, the agriscience barn, the forest property and land lab we use with ag students, the family center, and more! It was a great day preparing and getting excited for the school year. Let's make this year the best one yet!

Blood Drive tomorrow. Walk ins welcome!

Coleman Elementary got a new little Free Library this summer! Located at the front of the building near the office, students may take a book for themselves, or leave a book for others. It is free for everyone, not just elementary students or families. What a nice new addition!

Agriscience afternoon students learned about the commodities of Michigan farming areas and then used the USDA website to research 10 commodities and the dollar values of various other states. This work will all lead to a sculpture students will be creating in future lessons.
Casee Billington is in her second year of the program and was busy extracting honey as part of her work.

Afternoon Culinary students used examples from the morning classes to get started on a recipe by using the "Mise En Place" process, French for "hunt and gather." Students also learned how to avoid cross-contamination, use teamwork, and learn a bit about carryover cooking.

Homecoming is coming up already in just a couple of weeks -- get ready to Chalk the Walk! Check out the flier for more information. Go Comets!!!
