We've had a few new staff members join us recently -- please help us to welcome them! Ms. Amanda Mahler, a Speech & Language Pathologist, joins us about 7 hours a week to support part of Mrs. Winslow's caseload of students, which is high this year (which says a lot because Sandy works SO hard!). Ms. Mahler was highly recommended and works with the ESA in preschool and other areas as part of her role there. She will be a great addition and support. Ms. Lauren Hansen is joining us as a paraprofessional in the Responsibility Center/Proactive Support position at the Jr/Sr High. Ms. Hansen is a graduate of Jenison High and Aquinas College, now getting her Masters in Counseling. She has worked with students with ODD and Autism, has a background in ABA therapy, and worked in before and after school programs among other jobs. Mr. Kris Anderson is our new Kindergarten teacher! Mr. Anderson previously taught 1st, 2nd and 5th grades and really loves working with the younger students. He has a strong background in project-based learning and strives to make learning fun and make connections with the students and his team while showing strong gains in student achievement. Mr. Anderson has taken over Mrs. Katie Staley's classroom, whose family is moving up north. Mrs. Staley has connected with many students and families in her time at Coleman and her knowledge, efforts and care are greatly appreciated. Thank you, Mrs. Staley!

ABSENTEE BALLOT REMINDER
Back in August, the elementary school received a special donation of 384 backpacks from Costco of Midland, enough for each student! Each backpack included a few school supplies for students to use, as well. We are super appreciative of this donation that helped to lessen the hardships of back-to-school season for our families, especially those families with multiple children in the household. We are extremely grateful for this opportunity to partner with Costco and find ways to make it easier to support our students in their learning. Costco's backpack program is a part of their Commitment to Communities initiative. Since 1993, Costco has donated over 7 million backpacks all over the world. Community partnerships such as this are important for our students. When students see that those in the community care about them, it can inspire them and show that their educational success matters and is important. Thanks again to Costco of Midland for the generous donation that helped to kick off our new school year on a great note!

Did you know that the November 2023 Bond Proposal DOES NOT include the construction of a new auxiliary gym OR a new auditorium? These items were formerly part of the August 2021 Bond Proposal, but have since been removed in the current proposal in order to better reflect community feedback. The current proposal will instead address minor renovations in the current auditorium and a full renovation of the current locker rooms. If you weren't aware of this fact, you should check out our Bond page to make sure you have all the up-to-date info about the current proposal! https://www.colemanschools.net/page/bond-information-2023

Today is Technology/Communications Department Recognition Day! This group keeps us all running smoothly, gets us out of many different jams, and honestly just helps us maintain some sanity! They are skilled, detail-oriented, and bring a great deal of knowledge and support to the district and each of us individually. We couldn't do all that we do without them. Please help us recognize the great work they do!

The day before the first day of school is always reserved for our first all-staff professional development day of the year! This year's theme was "Cultivating Comet Connections - Growing for the Future!" Each staff member was gifted a small plant to keep in their work stations as a reminder of our strong ties to agriscience. In addition to our annual trainings in health & wellness with Nurse Weber, ALICE/safety with Deputy Hodges, and technology with Mr. Burkhart, everyone went on a tour of the school and community! Many staff members enjoyed getting the chance to visit areas they don't normally get to see, like the culinary building, the agriscience barn, the forest property and land lab we use with ag students, the family center, and more! It was a great day preparing and getting excited for the school year. Let's make this year the best one yet!
