The Culinary students were working hard on their knife skills and kitchen/classroom etiquette. Looks like they're doing a great job! This class is full of students from Bullock Creek, Coleman, Meridian, Midland Dow and Midland High schools. Next week is Homecoming! Here are all of the Spirit Week details for the Jr/Sr High and event dates and times for all.
Class Color Day: Seniors - black, Juniors - gray, Sophomores - purple, Freshmen - green, 8th grade - yellow, 7th grade - teal/turquoise

The day before the first day of school is always reserved for our first all-staff professional development day of the year! This year's theme was "Cultivating Comet Connections - Growing for the Future!" Each staff member was gifted a small plant to keep in their work stations as a reminder of our strong ties to agriscience. In addition to our annual trainings in health & wellness with Nurse Weber, ALICE/safety with Deputy Hodges, and technology with Mr. Burkhart, everyone went on a tour of the school and community! Many staff members enjoyed getting the chance to visit areas they don't normally get to see, like the culinary building, the agriscience barn, the forest property and land lab we use with ag students, the family center, and more! It was a great day preparing and getting excited for the school year. Let's make this year the best one yet!

Blood Drive tomorrow. Walk ins welcome!

Coleman Elementary got a new little Free Library this summer! Located at the front of the building near the office, students may take a book for themselves, or leave a book for others. It is free for everyone, not just elementary students or families. What a nice new addition!

Agriscience afternoon students learned about the commodities of Michigan farming areas and then used the USDA website to research 10 commodities and the dollar values of various other states. This work will all lead to a sculpture students will be creating in future lessons.
Casee Billington is in her second year of the program and was busy extracting honey as part of her work.

Afternoon Culinary students used examples from the morning classes to get started on a recipe by using the "Mise En Place" process, French for "hunt and gather." Students also learned how to avoid cross-contamination, use teamwork, and learn a bit about carryover cooking.

Homecoming is coming up already in just a couple of weeks -- get ready to Chalk the Walk! Check out the flier for more information. Go Comets!!!

More phone policy info that couldn't fit on the image:

The second time, the student may pick the device up at the office at the end of the school day. A third time results in a contact to the parent/guardian who will then need to come to the school office to retrieve the device for the child. Any additional times may result in arrangements between the parent & administration pertaining to no longer having the device in school.
- If the phone is used in any illegal manner (including threats and bullying, improper video, sexting), there will be disciplinary actions and the parent(s) and possibly the police will be notified.
