Congrats to the November employees of the month! (Sorry we're late!) These awards are granted based on staff nominations; final decisions are made by the Board. These employees enjoy one month of parking in the reserved 'Employee of the Month' parking space at their building, one month of getting the 'Employee of the Month' trophy on their desk, and one month of bragging rights. Thanks for being outstanding employees! We appreciate your hard work and dedication to the district!

1st graders Adelyn and Aaron were in charge of leading the Pledge of Allegiance at tonight's Board Meeting! They both did a great job speaking loud and clear for us. Thanks for being here and for being great leaders in your class, Comets! #LEADLikeAComet

In Mrs. Shumaker's class, the freshmen did a Character Cube project on the characters from To Kill a Mockingbird. Each side of the cube tells something about the character and what they did in the story. Then they were hung from the ceiling so that all the class could see them! Great job 9th grade!

Boys' basketball continued its good Friday vibes with a 52-49 road win against Breckenridge. Colin Stokero led the way with 17 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 assists. Logan Glazier added 13 points and 5 rebounds. They host Montabella on Wednesday, with the JV game starting at 5:30.
Senior Kapre Lynch represented Coleman this weekend. She finished the day in 1st Place for her weight class with a total competition personal record of 620lbs. She went 7 for 9 on her lifts and set competition PRs in Bench (125lbs) and Deadlift (300lbs). She also ended with a Squat of 195lbs. We also had Coleman and Powerlifting Alumni, Matt MacPhee, make the drive over to support and take pictures for Kapre. Overall, it was a great day and a great start to the Powerlifting Season. After her competition today, Kapre is in a good position to qualify for the MHSPLA State Meet in early March.

Coleman Schools will have a 2-hour delay today, Monday, December 16th due to a few icy roads and fog, which should improve a little later this morning. Buses will still run to the ESA for those students in ESA programs. 1st and 2nd hour English and Social Studies exams at the Jr/Sr High will begin tomorrow. Exams will be held for English and Social Studies starting with 3rd hour today. Ag and Culinary at Coleman for the morning are not running due to the delay and students going to other CTE programs for the morning will not have bussing but may drive themselves if they wish.
I have heard from some people that the voice message that went out was blank; my apologies for that. A text and email were sent to help with that. Again, sorry for the disruption.
Tonight is the last Coleman Elementary Wrapping Workshop of the season! Proceeds go to Leader in Me activities and supplies. For more info, please email ayoung@colemanschools.net. See you there! 🎁

We had three fun presentations to start off the Board Meeting tonight! We listened to the high school choir perform 3 songs from their Christmas concert, heard Chef Moore give an update for the Culinary program, and listened to Mr. Fischer and some Ag students report on the FFA conference from back in October.
The choir, led by Mrs. Tallman, performed Like It's Christmas, Hot Chocolate, and Fruitcake. They all did a great job singing and even danced on the stage for us!
Chef Moore shared that his students have been attending several trainings and competitions, as well as catering community events like the Gerstacker Christmas party, Leader in Me event, and Thanksgiving dinner.
Mr. Fischer and his FFA students reported on all the fun activities they experienced at the conference: meeting students from around the country, building relationships with other members of their chapter, visiting booths for companies and colleges, listening to guest speakers, and then attending the rodeo and concert!

Coleman Elementary doesn't only strive to build great student leaders, but great STAFF leaders, as well! Check out this lovely staff pic from Leadership Night. Thanks for sharing, teachers! #LEADLikeAComet

The girls bowling team ran into some tough competition this past Saturday. Highlights from the day included three bowlers who had PR games: Charisma Gingerich bowled a 170, Amelia Schwartz had a 140 game and Imani Davis had a 127 game.
The boys team almost overcame a stout St. Charles team and battled hard with Breckenridge. Landon Hauck-Powell and Rocky Cole each won 2 matches on the day. Landon also bowled a personal best 161.
Thanks to our CMU student, Arriana Macedo, 6th graders learned the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and about the inventor of the famous balloons featured in the parade. Students then planned and created their own parade balloons.
Every fall, the PTO puts together an apple pie and gift card fundraiser. The funds raised help pay for the 6th grade field trip to Mystic Lake in the spring. Students look forward to this overnight camping trip every year!
Just before Thanksgiving, the orders of 170 pies were completed in record time thanks to the help of 6th grade students and parents. Volunteers helped put down plastic, prep tables and pie containers, weigh apples, and assemble the pies - complete with the crumble topping. Chef Jacob from the culinary arts program, and several other staff members including Mrs. Lynch, Ms. Timlin, Mrs. Pelletier, and Ms. Lovejoy, joined in the fun. Thank you to those who helped and to those who purchased pies!

Finally, Spirit Week Friday with Red v Green Day at the Jr/Sr High! Mr. Baase had to double-check spacing as students posed for pictures.

Back during Kindness Week, the Jr/Sr High had a door decorating competition! The winners were Mr. Francis (balloon door) and Mrs. Robison (turkey door) and they each won an ice cream float party for their classes. Nice work being kind, Comets! #LEADLikeAComet

Boys' basketball traveled to Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart on Wednesday. The JV team continued their winning ways for another league victory. The varsity team ran into a team that hit 13 3-pointers but fought hard to keep it competitive. Jared DeVrieze had 12 points and 6 rebounds, with Logan Glazier tallying 6 points. They are back in action in Breckenridge tonight, with the JV starting at 5:30.
The JH girls played their last game against Ashley on the same floor that the high school players use every day. They came out with another victory based on some solid defense and Treva Robinson's 24 points. Olivia Hegel defended the hoop with a number of blocks. Teagan Kennedy hit her first 3-pointer late in the game.

A Chippewa Nature Center representative visited Mrs. Whittington's kindergarten class to teach about hibernation, migration, and adaptation.

One challange at Leadership Night November 21st was to Think Win-Win by working with a partner to get a ball into a cup using two other cups following some simple guidelines. We had several successful attempts!

Mrs. Pelletier's 3rd graders learned how difficult it was to be a Voyaguer, French explorer, or fur trader at the "Pelt to Felt" program at Chippewa Nature Center. They discussed period clothing, different jobs within the giant canoes, and "racing" to get furs to the trading post. They also learned the importance of the beaver pelt and other resources traded between the European explorers and the indigenoious people. The kids had a great time and staff are greatful to include these vaulable trips into the curriculum.

Jr/Sr High Christmas Character vs Christmas in Hawaii Day is lots of fun! Can you guess who is dressed for what?
