Our senior class deserves some serious praise! These two recent ceremonies celebrated the academic accomplishments of our seniors at the top of their class; the Kiwanis Clubs, and the MSAC Banquet. The Kiwanis Club recently honored the top 10% of students in our senior class: Brayden Servis, Brooklynn Lattimer, Ty Murray, and Paige Lynch (not pictured). The MSAC Banquet honored all seniors with a 3.5 GPA or higher that were also involved in an MSAC sport or academic activity. Keep up the awesome work, Comets!

On Wednesday last week, Mrs. Pelletier and Ms. McDonald went with two of their 2nd graders to receive the C.A.R.E. They each received a certificate of achievement, a free book, and a gift certificate to Great Lakes ice cream in Midland. Great work, Comets!

The HS STEAM class Attended Rogers Athletics/StageRight on Wednesday in Clare, MI. The students were able to see products transform from blank sheets of metal and raw lengths of tubing into finished products. The company builds portable stages, seating risers, choral risers, sound shells, football practice equipment, full weight rooms for strength training, office cubicles and much more! The tour covered the fabrication area where state of the art lasers cut profiles on tubes and in flat sheet metal. The company had advanced storage systems to control inventory and make production flow very efficient. We were able to see robotic welders making precision weldments and workers assembling Lev Sleds, FR 36 fold and roll stages and transport systems. In addition, The students received an up close look at a huge and fully automated powder coat paint line which can paint many color options.

Today we celebrate our Food Service Staff on their recognition day! This group ensures every day and throughout the summer that our students are well-fed and get the nutrition they need to make it through a long school day. Not only that, but they become mentors and another adult our students can connect with. The team works to come up with new ideas for the students and get to know them personally. Thank you to our Food Service Team for all you do daily! Please take a few minutes today to give them a thank you, a note, or small token of appreciation.

Today is School Nurse Recognition Day, and we have one of the absolute best! When we first were able to bring a nurse to the buildings, and Mrs. Weber started with us, we knew we had found a gem. She just continues to impress us and serves not only our students, but is a fabulous resource for our staff and families as well. We are so fortunate to have her working with us. Thank you, Mrs. Weber, for your initiative, hard-working personality and all the care you put into your job daily! If you have a chance, please drop a quick note to Mrs. Weber, give her a thank you or a small token of appreciation.

Earlier this year, we were approached by Mid Michigan Health to apply for a State grant for a School-Based Health Center in Coleman. We recently learned that we have been awarded the grant in collaboration with Mid Michigan Health!! The grant provides funding for this year to remodel a small section of the old part of the elementary; Mid Michigan Health will provide any additional funding necessary. The grant and Mid Michigan Health's joint efforts will fund the space and staffing going forward. Coleman Schools will supply the space and custodial/technology connection support; otherwise, the project is paid for entirely through the grant and Mid Michigan Health. The clinic will provide multiple services including social work and nurse practitioner for 24 hours per week, likely 4 days per week. This clinic will provide services to students grades K-12th and, based on percentages, will have some availability for adults as well. The clinic will be open year-round and because of that will assist our families in accessing services locally and reducing drive time and the cost of transportation, etc. Clinics such as these show research of reduced absences for students, improved health and increased connection with health care workers. It also provides a strong connection between the school, health care and the community. A School-Based Health Clinic Advisory Board made up of stakeholders around the community will be created in the near future. More to come, but we are very excited for this opportunity for our students and their families!
