MS SARA INTERVIEW

Welcome to Ms. Sara Araway, one of our newest paraprofessionals! Sara has been subbing for us for some time, is very positive with everyone she works with, is flexible in assisting with the needs of students and thinks quickly on her feet to make adjustments.

We interviewed Sara to learn a bit more about her:

Why did you decide to become a paraprofessional?

I was struggling to enjoy the job I had before I started here, where I was working as a clinical laboratory aide. I was working the 10:30 pm - 6:30 am shift, which was really challenging for me. I started subbing at Coleman Schools and enjoyed the classrooms I was working in so much that I decided I wanted a permanent job here. Now that I've spent even more time working in Alison Young's classroom, specifically, it has inspired me to want to become a Special Education teacher myself! I've recently decided to switch my major to Special Education.

Do you have any prior connection with this school district or community?

Everyone knows that my mom is the Elementary School principal and that my sister is the K-12 Spanish Teacher, but what you may NOT know is that when I was little and had a day off of school, I would come to school with my Mom and help out in classrooms, assisting students with their work. I've kind of been a psuedo-paraprofessional fora long time!

What drew you to this opportunity?

I was specifically looking for an opportunity to work with kids, and I'm really enjoying it!

What does your absolute 'dream' day off look like?

Sleeping in, going on a funded shopping spree (ideally TJ Maxx), hang out with my dog, Cusco, then make sure I’m home by 9 pm to watch The Pitt with my sister, then go back to bed.

What emojis would you use to describe yourself?

😆✨🏊‍♀️

What's your secret talent?

Swimming, I used to swim the 100-meter butterfly in high school. I’m also a lifeguard and swim teacher at the West Midland Family Center in the summer, and I used to lifeguard at the Soaring Eagle Waterpark, as well.

Do you have anything coming up that you’re looking forward to?

I get to live at Disney for a semester soon! I’m participating in the Disney College Program. I can't wait!
