Hello,

This is Coleman Community Schools Superintendent, Jen McCormack. I hope all of you are having a great week. Thank you for your patience as we continue to finalize more and more of the fine details with regard to school this year. Please continue to watch your emails, our website under LiveFeed, Events and News at the bottom of the Homepage, our social media etc. daily for more information being added.
In those places you will find the following information:

  • Comet News Aug. 2020 full of a significant amount of information to start the year. These are also delivered to all Coleman Schools area homes.
  •  2-page document providing the most important information for K-6 "A Day in the Life" Phase 4 In-Person or 7-12 "A Day in the Life" Phase 4 In-Person student during Phase 4 In-Person Learning will be included. In order to reduce co-mingling of students to the greatest extent possible it provides you with the drop-off times for students in the morning.
  • School calendar in two version (2020-2021 Calendar and List Order). The first day of In-Person and Online Learning Academy instruction will be August 31st for a half day in the a.m.; elementary half days end at 11:30 a.m. and jr./sr. high ends at 11:20 a.m. Keep in mind the Early Release times, new this year on most Wednesdays as noted on the calendar, starting with Sept. 2nd where students leave one hour early. SPARKS students will go to the program for an extra hour at that time on Wednesdays.

Online Learning Academy registered students/parents will be receiving a separate email from me in the next day or so, detailing when we will hold Virtual/Online Orientations for this group. These Orientations will provide a great deal of information for families.

Open Houses/ Orientations-  As many of you are aware, the Executive Orders from the State put us in Phase 4 currently. We are allowed no more than 100 public at outdoor events and 10 public at indoor events. Therefore, we are adjusting our Open Houses this year, which is hard for all of us not being able to do all of them in person. I know it is one of my very favorite events of the year. Kindergarten and 7th grade students are entering new buildings and we will have in-person for them only. More detail is below.

K-12 Virtual Open Houses- Virtual links for each teacher will be posted and sent to parents for the August 26th Open Houses. Elementary is 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Jr./Sr. High is 6:00-7:00 p.m. You will sign on at the link and be able to see your child's teacher(s) during that time and sign in and out of the Virtual Open Houses as you would walk in and out of a classroom. In that way, you can ask questions and then "go to" the next class. Teachers will also have written documents that will be sent to you for this day, emailed if you do not attend and can be picked up at the school main office. If none of these work they can be mailed out. On Sept. 2nd, you will also receive a link to short videos from admin. and teachers, introducing you to the classroom, expectations and other important information that may or may not have been shared on Aug. 26th.

Kindergarten Orientation- Kindergarten families will be receiving information from the Kindergarten teachers to sign up for an open time on August 26th from 2-5:00 p.m. by appointment only for 15-minute appointments for one student & one adult to attend in-person. Both must be wearing masks and will enter through the exterior Kindergarten doors which will be marked.

7th Grade Orientation- 7th grade families will be contacted very soon to sign up for a time on August 26th to come to the building in-person for a short time. Jr./Sr. High staff and 6th grade teachers will be there to present 6th Grade Completion certificates at the entry. Staff will be present at the doors to answer questions for parents. Incoming 7th graders only, will be allowed to tour the building, practice locker combos and see where their classrooms are. Again, the sign-up is forthcoming.

Student Information Update- Another email will come asking every parent to update each of their child(ren)'s Student Information as well as certify that they have seen additional information specifically related to this school year. In order for us to best support your child(ren) this year, it is crucial that every parent go in and complete this information, even if you are already registered with Coleman Schools. Again when this email comes over the next two weeks, please complete the information as soon as possible. I will send a follow-up call and if you are unable to do this online, please call us and we will walk through it with you.

Practice- Help your child get ready for school by practicing wearing a mask for periods of time. Please plan to take your child's temperature prior to arrival at school each day to help us keep everyone safe. A screener will be in the Student Information Update for your review and I will be providing a QR Code for easy reference.

Thank you for all the input and patience as we work to do our very best by our students and families while working within the parameters given to us this year. Keep communicating and let us know how we can help. Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Jen McCormack, Supt.
