Leadership Night November 21!

TOMORROW MORNING is Booksgiving! K - 2nd grade families, come read with us and receive some free books during breakfast time. We hope to see you there! 📚

The band performed their annual Halloween concert (sorry, a little late in sharing!) for the elementary students, complete with iconic tunes such as: "Ghostbusters," "Scary Had A Little Lamb," and "Revenge of the Dust Bunnies." Drum Major Kapre Lynch even took a turn conducting! #LEADLikeAComet

2nd grade took some time to prioritize outdoor education recently! They studied types of trees and leaves and enjoyed the much nicer-than-normal fall weather. 🍂

Mrs. Whittington's class took a lovely fall trip to Chippewa Nature Center, too! Even our youngest Comets love outdoor education and natural science! 🍂

Look who came back to volunteer at Coleman Elementary School! Welcome back to Mrs. Rachel Brownlee, former CES teacher turned FUMC Read to Lead Volunteer. We LOVE having you help us! Mrs. Brownlee is one of the volunteers from Faith United Methodist Church who has trained and is working with our students in reading. We greatly appreciate our the support of our volunteers like Mrs. Brownlee and feel extra appreciative that we've had her come back and see us! #LEADLikeAComet

Mrs. Letts and Mrs. Nehrig dressed up as Detroit sports fans today! And what a good year to do so! 🦁🐯

It's a ZOO over at the elementary today . . . and Mrs. Araway is the zookeeper! 🐒🐅🐘

6th grade showed off their Halloween costumes today! How many costumes/characters can you recognize?

Everyone say hello to our Intervention Superheroes! The Math Ninja, The Super Sentence Savior, and The Book Whisperer are here to save the day!

First graders synergize to build structures that can stand on their own using pasta and marshmallows!

Students in 3rd grade are learning about The Constitution of the United States through our new Reading program, Bookworms. Pictured is our "Student Choral Read-aloud with the teacher" process. We’ve read 3 whole books this year already!! #growingforthefuture

The annual 6th grade Fall Bulb Project is well underway. 6th graders weighed, measured, and sketched their daffodil and narcissus bulbs before planting. Predictions were made on bloom size compared to bulb size. We learned that while narcissus is the genus name for daffodil, in the flower market narcissus refers to a bulb that will produce multi stems and flowers. Daffodils usually have only one flower per bulb unless the bulb splits. We are excited to see the labors of our work but have to wait until March or April. In the meantime, we will keep records of air and ground temperature until we see the first sprouts of Spring.

ATTENTION PARENTS! Picture Retake Day for both buildings is NEXT WEEK - don't miss it! ELEMENTARY: Wednesday 11/6. JR/SR HIGH: Tuesday 11/5. Don't forget to order your pictures online: https://www.geskusphoto.com/

Check out Ms. Klykken's art class! Second graders just finished their Mixed-Media Fall Foxes, fifth graders just finished their Mixed-Media Pop Art Pumpkins, and sixth graders just finished their Mixed-Media Fall Hedgehogs. How fun and festive!

5th graders recently did group presentations on whether Michigan should send water to California or not to help address wildfires. Very interesting topic!
